The Appraisal and Revalidation, whilst largely unchanged in content, has been rejigged. I have tried to lay out below the requirements, all of which is in the MAG forms which are self explanatory and NHS Devon is encouraging everyone to use (and, from personal experience, is very easy to use)(see below for links).
Locums are no longer reimbursed for appraisal.
This checklist is what appraisers use to go through the domains in your appraisal.
Scope: Detailing everything you do related to work – clinical, educational, GPwSI, commissioning etc
Generally, 1 session/week minimum (equivalent to 200 clinical sessions in 5 years)
Record of Appraisal
Quality Improvement Activities: Training, educational events, courses etc. Basically evidence showing you are up to date
Must include yearly Child protection training update (see relevant section on the website). Vulnerable adult training will be a requirement soon, links will be posted on the website.
Significant Event Analysis 2/year
Feedback (Good and bad)
Summarising and signing off
This is where the differences lie and from what I understand is reflection on the above areas in 4 different domains:
- Knowledge, Skills and Performance
- Reflection on your previous PDP, Quality Improvement Activities, supporting documentation
- Safety and Quality
- Systems in place to protect the patient, how you respond to risks, SEA, probity, health
- Communication, Partnership and Teamwork
- Feedback, evidence of teamwork
- Maintaining Trust
Checklist for Revalidation Evidence
Structured reflective templates (which can be used in conjunction with any appraisal forms)
